PROJECT SPECIALIST – Community Outreach & Engagement – Family Violence Intervention Services

Exemption Status:           Non-Exempt, Full-Time – 30 hours 

Hourly Rate:                    $18.50 + $1 for Triple P Seminar Accreditation 

Bilingual: Spanish Required 

Currently working from home and onsite temporarily due to COVID, however, employees will be expected to work at their assigned worksite in Ventura as needed.  


This position is part of the Family Violence Initiatives Team and reports to the Family Violence Initiatives Program Manager. This position engages domestic violence organizations, early childhood educators, community-based organizations and the local community through outreach, presentations, and sharing of resources and best practices. The Project Specialist will be responsible for community outreach and engagement for the Central Coast Family Violence Prevention Initiative (CCFVPI) and other domestic violence prevention programs within the Family Violence Intervention Services Department. This position will identifying key community partners and participate in networking opportunities such as local community events, resource fairs and forums. Collaborative and successful teamwork, cultural fluency, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills, are essential for the position.  


  1. Develop and outreach plan and engage underserved and culturally diverse populations through outreach, presentations and discussions related to domestic violence, child abuse and family violence. 
  2. Coordinate and deliver Triple P Seminars for underserved communities and assist with referrals to relevant services as needed, including domestic violence, mental health or other appropriate services.  
  3. Participate in community outreach and family violence prevention and awareness activities including speaking engagements  
  4. Develop social media content for youth, parents and community relating to child abuse, teen dating violence and family violence prevention.  
  5. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local, and community partners and serve as a liaison between Interface and community partners.  
  6. Deliver specialized trainings on topics including, but not limited to, domestic violence, family violence and strengthening families as needed.  
  7. Provide technical assistance to community partners and train organizations that promote the continued knowledge and implementation of best practices when working with victims and survivors of domestic violence. 
  8. Provide crisis counseling and culturally and linguistically appropriate assistance to potential victims identified through training sessions or outreach. 
  9. Develop trauma informed materials, presentations and content relating to domestic violence, family violence and contribute to a research-informed approaches to primary prevention, development and implementation of best practice and evidence-based training curricula and creativity for maintenance of social media and virtual education components. 
  10. Participate in training, workshop development, and implementation strategies that contribute to the integration of evidence-based practices as a part of all training and technical assistance efforts. 
  11. Assist with the 60-hour Domestic Violence Counselor and Human Trafficking Caseworker trainings and outreach activities both internally and externally as needed. 
  12. Assist with development, maintenance and distribution of program materials and resources as needed; keep management informed of program progress, needs, activities and community involvement. 
  13. Complete program documentation, statistics and evaluations in a timely manner including pre and post evaluations, volunteer activities, outreach events and community involvement. 
  14. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, in service training and agency activities as applicable. 
  15. Develop and maintain appropriate relationships and boundaries with participants, colleagues and partnering agencies. 
  16. Support a positive working environment and work successfully as a member of the team.  
  17. Provide information and referrals for child abuse, dating violence, domestic violence, mental health and other appropriate community-based services for potential victims as needed.  
  18. Serve as a mandated reporter of child and elder abuse as required. 
  19. Other duties as assigned. 


  1. Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s degree preferred.  
  2. Extensive knowledge of family systems, dynamics of domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse, parenting, child development or the cycle of violence required.  
  3. Minimum 2-years of experience with public speaking and ability to engage a wide range of audiences required. 
  4. Must possess strong crisis intervention skills and have firm knowledge of reporting laws.  
  5. Must be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.  
  6. Must be able to work independently and maintain flexibility.  
  7. Experience with private and/or public social service agencies desirable.  
  8. Self-Motivation, initiative and strong relationship building skills required. 
  9. Excellent written/verbal communication skills, time management and organizational skills required. 
  10. Must be able to work independently and in a team and maintain flexibility. 
  11. Flexibility of schedule required, evening and weekend work may be required. 
  12. Spanish fluency, both oral and written is required.  
  13. Requires computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Zoom, Canva, Outlook and the internet. 
  14. Requires completion of 60HR Domestic Violence Counselor and Human Trafficking Caseworker Training (CA Evidence Code Section 1037.1 & 1038.2) within 3 months of hire. 
  15. Successful background and criminal clearance required,including but not limited to, California Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Proof of a valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation, proof of automobile insurance (listed as covered) and maintain an acceptable driving record as required by our insurer.
