TITLE: Justice Services Group Facilitator

Full-time: 40 hours per week

Hourly Rate: $21/hour base, plus $1/hour for bilingual certification, $1/hour for MRT certification, and $0.50/hour for AWBW certification.

Work Location: Ventura County Juvenile Justice Facility- Requires additional security clearance.

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday. Hours may vary

JOB OVERVIEW

This position is part of the Justice Services Team and reports to the Justice Services Program Manager. The Group Facilitator position at the juvenile detention center leads structured, trauma-informed programs focused on emotional regulation, life skills, pro-social development, and personal growth for justice-involved youth in accordance with state Title 15 program regulations. This role involves creating a safe, respectful, and engaging environment where participants can explore topics such as decision-making, communication, conflict resolution, and self-awareness. The facilitator collaborates with facility staff to support behavior goals, uses evidence-based practices, and adapts group content to meet the unique needs of the youth population.

DUTIES

  1. Organizes and facilitates psycho-educational and skills-based group sessions for detained youth, focusing on topics such as emotional regulation, decision-making, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, and goal setting.
  2. Leads trauma-informed programs tailored to the needs of justice-involved youth, promoting self-awareness, accountability, and pro-social behavior.
  3. Collaborates with facility staff to identify participants, conduct group orientations, and ensure alignment with individualized behavior or case plans.
  4. Ensures that all group sessions are conducted in accordance with evidence-based practices, facility protocols, and approved curricula that meet the developmental and emotional needs of youth.
  5. Contributes to the development and adaptation of group curricula that are responsive to the needs of detained youth and aligned with best practices in juvenile justice and youth development.
  6. Maintains accurate and confidential documentation for group participants, including attendance records, weekly progress notes, and assignment tracking.
  7. Implements and collects evaluation tools such as pre- and post-assessments to monitor group outcomes and support continuous improvement.
  8. Participates in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development to strengthen trauma-informed facilitation skills and maintain alignment with current best practices.
  9. Maintains organized records related to group programming, curriculum resources, evaluation data, and schedules; contributes to internal reporting and data collection efforts.
  10. Attends facility and team meetings, contributes to interdisciplinary collaboration, and communicates observations relevant to youth progress and group dynamics.
  11. Represents the program in internal and external meetings, collaborative work groups, or outreach initiatives related to youth development and rehabilitation, as assigned.
  12. Provides support across related programming areas when needed, including behavior coaching, re-entry planning, and individual skill-building.
  13. Acts as a mandated reporter in accordance with California state law, reporting any suspected abuse or neglect in a timely and appropriate manner.
  14. Performs other related duties assigned to support the mission and operations of the facility and youth services team.

 QUALIFICATIONS

 Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, criminal justice, social work or related field is highly preferred or equivalent field experience. Experience facilitating psycho-educational groups and strong group management skills required.  Knowledge of evidence-based programs/practices, dynamics of violence, substance abuse, and child development is preferred. Must be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Must be able to work independently and maintain flexibility. Experience with private and/or public social service agencies is desirable. Experience working with justice involved youth is desirable. Must be available to work evenings and weekends. Spanish fluency, both oral and written is preferred. Requires completion and certification of Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) and A Window Between Worlds (AWBW.) Successful background and criminal clearance required, including but not limited to, California Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Proof of a valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation, proof of automobile insurance (listed as covered) and maintain an acceptable driving record as required by our insurer.
