The Department of Early Child and Family Development is a new department at Interface Children & Family Services. The purpose of the program is to support children and families to thrive in healthy and supportive environments. Through intra-agency collaboration, and community and family engagement, a cost-effective prevention strategy will be implemented, that supports the accessibility of high-quality early learning and development resources for children birth to age 5 and their families.
The PACT Teacher/Family Support Specialist will work under the direct supervision of a Program Manager, Neighborhoods for Learning. The PACT teacher is responsible for the early learning and parent/child engagement for the children enrolled in his/her class following the PACT curriculum. Applies professional knowledge, experience and independent judgment within the specialized ECE field of physical, social, emotional, cognitive development and early learning through PACT and parent support. Supports children and families in meeting basic needs through screenings, assessments, referral, and linkage to pertinent family resources. Works collaboratively with assigned regional team. May participate as part of the Mobile PACT/Family Support Team within a specified region.
- Implement PACT program using standardized structure in which teachers will also model play, learning and positive interactions between parent/caregivers and children.
- Promote the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework by promoting the five protective factors in all PACT services;
- Implement standard screening tools (e.g. ASQ, ASQ-SE, ACE) and follow established processes for providing next steps/referrals and follow up commensurate identified needs.
- Include organized/planned, age appropriate activities as well as time for free play;
- Utilize principles in the Foundations as the Children Infant/Toddler and Preschool Learning Development Foundations to plan structured and unstructured activities based on session topic, age-group focus, and individual child needs;
- Incorporate planned activities that support identified needs of children in the group;
- Facilitate opportunities for children to interact with parent/caregiver and other children as well as parents/caregivers to interact with each other;
- Ensure the safety of each child and parent enrolled in the class whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in the common areas;
- Provides a safe, nurturing and pleasing environment for both children and their families
- Develops and implements weekly lesson plans
- Contributes to monthly newsletter
- Accept and maintain responsibility on a daily basis for the appearance, decor, and cleanliness of the learning environment;
- Serve as a role model for the children and parent/caregivers
- Treat each child and parent/caregiver with dignity and respect for his/her cultural background;
- Engage in conversations as appropriate with parents/caregivers around additional referrals and services that families need to support positive child development/growth
- Assist parents and community members (e.g. applications for services) for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information and other services required by parents.
- Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential records (e.g. activity logs, phone logs, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing up-to-date reference and audit trail and/or ensuring the availability of items.
- Organizes a variety of activities (e.g. parent meetings, events) for the purpose of providing support to parents, showcasing children talents, and celebrating the diversity of the community.
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Refers children and their families to outside agencies (e.g. medical professionals, counselors, foundations, charities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the child’s and family are met and provide ongoing case management as appropriate.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents, students, teachers, staff, outside agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
- Support program evaluation by implementing program as trained, and routinely collecting data.
- Supports dissemination of pertinent program information to parents and key community partners/stakeholders.
Early Childhood Education background with minimum 12 ECE units or 2years of ECE experience. Knowledge of local resources preferred. Demonstrate working knowledge and value of playgroups, parent/child dyads, meeting fidelity of evidence-based practice, develop activities that are developmentally appropriate, develop lesson plans. Working knowledge of the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework, developmental screenings and the California Infant/Toddler Learning and Development Foundations and California Preschool Learning Foundations (Foundations). Knowledge of child development, principles of child health, safety and nutrition, community resources and skills to link families with appropriate agencies and services. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. Must be able to function in a team environment, comply with written and verbal directions, assignments and instructions from supervisory staff. Interact productively with all team members, both internal and external stakeholders, yet be able to work independently when required. Must have solid writing skills to satisfy project documentation requirements. Flexible and non-structured work hours, evenings and weekends to meet needs of community. Must be 21 years of age or older. Successful background and criminal clearance required, including but not limited to, California Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Proof of a valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation, automobile insurance and maintain an acceptable driving record as required by our insurer.
