- DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: The Literacy Outreach Program provides one to one tutoring to adults in the community who need help improving their ability to read or write. The program is free to any English speaking adult 18 or older who can meet with a volunteer tutor once a week at the Oxnard Public Library's main branch on "A" Street. We ask for a three month commitment from students and tutors. Volunteer tutors attend a mandatory tutor training session before being matched with a student. Volunteer tutors do not need to have any prior tutoring experience, just a desire to help an adult learn to read or write! All tutoring takes place at the Oxnard Public Library's main branch during regular library hours. If you, or someone you know, needs literacy services or would like to become a volunteer tutor, please call the Literacy Outreach Program at 805-385-7536 or visit the Literacy Outreach Program office on the second floor of the Oxnard Public Library at 251 South "A" Street in downtown Oxnard.
