- DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: Kids & Families Together is a not-for-profit center connecting birth, foster, kinship and adoptive families for family preservation and individual health and wholeness. The center provides specialized counseling services, resources, and referrals to individuals and families who have come together through foster care, kinship care, and/or adoption. The center also provides counseling services for any family impacted by early separation, loss, trauma, abuse/neglect, and prenatal exposure to drugs and/or alcohol. Clinical services are attachment-based, and are provided by professionals knowledgeable and sensitive to foster care, adoption, and other issues related to separation and loss. The primary therapeutic models used are Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and TheraplayŽ, both designed to help build secure emotional attachment between the child and their primary caregiver(s). The center also provides support groups for adoptive parents, birth parents, kinship care givers, adult adoptees, teens and children. Other services include pre/post adoption consultation as well as comprehensive education and training on issues related to foster, kinship and adoptive care both for families and professionals. The center has an extensive book and video lending library, and is also a F.O.O.D. Share provider for emancipated youth and kinship care givers. Kids & Families Together is located in an historical Victorian house near Plaza Park in downtown Ventura.
