Hourly Rate: $14.00 + DOE (depending on experience) includes bilingual incentive
DEMONSTRATE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE RAISING A CHILD WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS AND/OR INVOLVEMENT IN THE JUVENILE COURT SYSTEM, WITH SUCCESS AT NAVIGATING THE SYSTEM AND ACCESSING PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SUPPORTS
Overview
Report to assigned Clinical Services Manager. As a member of the treatment team, the Parent
Mentor assists parents and families whose children are participating in Solutions Court or
Recovery Classroom at Gateway. The Parent Mentor provides support, education and mentoring
to parents and family members as they and their youth engage in the treatment process within
the Court Program. They participate in treatment team meetings as needed and work closely
with the treatment team to engage the parent or guardian in the treatment process in support
of the client. Regularly attends all mandatory meetings. Does not supervise any other staff or
volunteer.
Duties
1) Demonstrate knowledge of and acts according to Child and Elder Abuse Reporting laws.
2) Develop appropriate relationship and maintain appropriate boundaries with assigned parents.
3) Provide transportation for parents as needed to meet identified needs.
4) Provide education and resources to assist in understanding mental health issues of youth.
5) Assist with acquiring appropriate medical/legal benefits.
6) Connects family with community supports and resources.
7) Provide emotional support & encouragement through frequent in-home, field and phone
contacts.
8) Complete and submit documentation on each contact with assigned family.
9) Communicate regularly with therapists.
10) Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Demonstrate personal experience raising a child with mental health concerns and/or involvement
inthe juvenile court system, with success at navigating the system and accessing public and private
supports. Must be able to develop respectful relationship with parents and families. Demonstrate
working knowledge about adolescent behavior and be able to discuss issues facing youth on juvenile
probation with mental health and/or substance abuse needs. Familiarity with Ventura County
community resources, Juvenile Probation and the Court system, and Ventura County Behavioral Health,
with flexibility to respond positively to various organizational cultures. Must be able to function in a
team environment and interact productively with all members, and yet be able to work independently
when required. Must have solid writing skills to satisfy project documentation requirements. Flexible
and non-structured work hours. Experience working with Microsoft Office. Must be bilingual
(English/Spanish), culturally competent, with competent English oral and written skills. Successful
criminal clearance required, including but not limited to, California Department of Justice (DOJ),
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Valid California driver’s
license and reliable transportation, automobile insurance and maintain an acceptable driving record as
required by our insurer.
